Today’s entry brought to you by the letter G (for GEEK)

Greetings!  (Also brought to you by the letter G)  And happy First Non-Holiday Weekend of the New Year!

As I have the house to myself this weekend, I’ve been doing a lot of writing.  Ryan and Beth are off sailing the seven seas, so I’m hanging with the dogs.  (And cat, and lizard and fish…) And watching the Seahawks WIN the Wild Card game – What tha?!  (Okay, I’m not known for my football fanaticism, but that touchdown in the 4th by Marshawn Lynch was the stuff of legends.  Wow!)

But I digress… Back to the writing.

I’ve been working on a chapter that’s been perplexing me for a while, but I think it’s almost there.  Woo!  It involves some concepts with which I’ve been wrestling for quite some time.  As this book is largely inspired by Science and outer space and I am neither a scientist nor have I visited outer space (sigh), it tends to create a head scratcher or two.  (or seventy)  Sure, I’m a super scientist, bad-ass astronaut in my nerdy imagination, but it’s another thing entirely to make sense of it on paper.  (or laptop)  Anyway, I think I finally have it… More on that later.

Adding to my geeky inspiration has been today’s addition of several, choice Sci-Fi epics.  In a nutshell, there’s a Star Trek movie marathon on FX today.  Yeah, I’ll admit it – I’m a sucker for ST.  I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t cry every time I watched the final scene between Kirk and Spock in The Wrath of Khan.  (A liar!)  However, I’ll also admit that what trumps my love of the Federation would easily be that of Star Wars.  (sorry, Trekkies/Trekkers)  That being said, it was very fitting that the movie, Fanboys was on before I got sucked into the Star Trek marathon.

If you haven’t seen Fanboys and you love Star Wars, I’d recommend checking it out.  It’s a funny, ridiculous, fanboy–accurate (AND girl!) and at times moving tribute to all things SW.  And the list of cameos is awesome!  Plus, not only does it pay tribute to one of my very favorite things (SW), there’s also some Rush love thrown in! (the band)  Yeah – that’s right – I love Star Wars AND Rush… Nerd.  Alert.

Blah, blah, blah… I guess I can’t sugarcoat things – I’ve been watching movies all day.  Hey – but I have been writing at the same time.  And I’ve been watching movies that inspire the content of my writing.  That’s just good form, if you ask me… >;-)

On a final note, if you haven’t already seen The Known Universe, as produced by the American Museum of Natural History, definitely check it out.  It’s pretty spectacular.  And a profound note on our actual size within the universe…

Until next time – Cheers!
